Dr Stellios Plainiotis

With almost 15 years of industry and academic experience in the fields of Energy and the Environment, he was the co-author of the first Chinese Guidebook on Sustainable Building Design: "Design for Sustainability", which is now used as a textbook at the Tonji University, Shanghai and the University of Nottingham (UK). He also holds: Phd in Computational Fluid Dynamics (University of Greenwich, London), MSc in Virtual Environments (Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London) and MSc in Environmental Design and Engineering (Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London)
Prior to moving to Malaysia, Stellios held a lecturing position at the University of Greenwich in London and headed the R&D Department of ΖΕF (UK) Ltd, leading the energy and environmental design of some of the most prestigious projects in Europe and the Middle East, including Hoxton Square in London and the American University of Beirut with Ζaha Hadid Architects, Crystal Palace Park Masterplan (London), Žižkov Masterplan in Prague (Hamilton Architects) and Rohansky Ostrov Masterplan, Prague (ΚΡF Architects).
Stellios relocated to Malaysia in 2008 to join IEN as Associate Director and later teamed up with LKMD Architecture for the design competition for the new KLIA Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT). The team won the competition in 2009 proposing a design which offsets 25000 tonnes of CO2 a year, reduces energy bills by 75% and the use of mains water by 60%. In addition, 1000kg of unexpired unsold pre-packed food will be donated per month to Malaysian food banks.
Dr Stellios Plainiotis sits on the Board of Directors of the EU-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce & Industry (EUMCCI) and he is an Associate Member of the Malaysia Green Building Confederation (MGBC).
